Quitting Smoking Days 4,5,6: Damn you, NYC

Posted in McGirk Quits Smoking on March 10, 2012 by mickgirk

So I’ve been in New York City for the past few days. Yes, it was fun. But stressful, as my transportation arrangements were, let’s say tenuous.

Also, did you know that real coffee makes you hyper? Like, not crappy Folgers Instant Coffee, but real coffee-shop stuff? Good god.

Anywho, my smoking habit? It hath returned with a vengeance. Well, not that bad, but I did smoke a handful of cigarettes yesterday. I also sold a guy one for 2 bucks on the Chinatown Bus. Regardless, now that I’m bad, it’s back to the grind of quitting. I just made it harder for myself. Damn you New York.

Quitting Smoking Day 3: 151 does not curb cravings

Posted in McGirk Quits Smoking on March 7, 2012 by mickgirk

I learned this yesterday. You know how you really want to smoke when you drink? Yeah? That’s obvious, right?

Well, all I meant to do was drink a few beers and then go on my merry way. No cigarettes in my pockets, no problem. But then friends (mostly smokers) showed up.

*shit*

Well, that’s not so bad, as I like friends. I work shitty hours, so my friend intake is minimal. That said, I didn’t expect to see a cadre of people I knew walk through the door and kick it with me. Fun, yes. Conducive to quitting smoking? No. Especially when one of your friends is the bartender and likes to put 151 in secret mix drinks.

OK, so I smoked 3 or 4 instead of 1 or 2. Today, I’m switching back to 1 or 2. It’s all good.

Then again, I’m getting on a bus today. That may drive me crazy. I dunno yet.

Qutting Smoking Day 2, or how I learned to quit worrying and love the shorts

Ok, the title is misleading.

Yesterday, I paced around my house, cleaning my room simply to distract my mind from the fact that I really, REALLY, wanted to smoke a damn cigarette. I went out and bought a blender, because I heard juicing quells the toxicity of nicotine, thus making it easier to quit.

^My face yesterday

I don’t know if that’s true, but I did make a legit fruit smoothie and I don’t care what you say, they are delicious and excellent for your health.

Anywho, I’m trying a staggered approach, where I smoke one or two cigarettes in a day, until I get over strong cravings and am able just to not smoke at all during the day. Does that work? I’ve heard no, but I’m trying it.

Today is the day I quit smoking

Posted in McGirk Quits Smoking with tags on March 5, 2012 by mickgirk

That’s right, on this day, March 5th 2012, I, McGirk, quit smoking. I decided in my car, as I woke up feeling like an ashtray and I didn’t want to brave the cold to buy another pack of cigarettes. So now I am at work, typing this, and trying not to think about wanting to smoke. But dear god do I.

"Sweet stock photo bro."

This is a good article I found on the subject. Thanks Cracked.com for being both funny and informative.

So I may be an asshole in these posts for a while… oh, wait. That’s right.
